What to do with a broken bone...
If you have sustained an injury, and you suspect a fracture (broken bone) you should:
If your injury is causing severe pain, your limb has changed colour or shape, or if the bone is sticking out or has caused bleeding; you should call an ambulance or present to your local emergency department immediately. Once the emergency has been managed at the hospital, your Physiotherapist can help with casting, equipment and follow-up care.
Many fractures can be managed by your local Physiotherapist at Physical Edge Healthcare. Your Physiotherapist can refer for X-ray, apply your cast (including waterproof casting), minimise muscle wasting, remove your cast, as well as help with rehabilitation and return to activity, sport and/or work.
Once your cast is removed, your arm or leg will feel very different. As the muscles haven’t been used for several weeks they shrink and become weak. At Physical Edge Healthcare, we can guide your rehabilitation towards using your arm or leg normally, by addressing any pain, movement or strength limitations.
