Lockdown Routine?

By Lauren Siddall

Takeaway coffees, 10 walks a day and sourdough starters... Must be lockdown.

Though the last few weeks have been hectic, one thing has been constant - change! It can be difficult to remain relaxed and positive while so much around us is uncertain, so we at Physical Edge have compiled a list of tips and tricks to keep you motivated, happy and healthy.

  1. Routine - Whether you work from home, an office, are a student or retired, keeping a routine can give purpose and direction when the days seem to blur together. Routine can mean changing out of your pyjamas (into sweats of course), brushing your teeth in the morning, allocating certain times for TV, or getting out for some exercise at the same time each day.
  2. Keep calm and carry on - Take some time to do an activity that calms your mind. Be it yoga, meditation, listening to Neil Young’s Harvest album, reading a book, writing, painting, or baking goodies for your favourite physiotherapist, just make sure it’s something that makes you feel calm and in the moment.
  3. Chin wag with your people - Make an effort to have at least one conversation a day with a friend or family member. After all, we’re all in this together.
  4. Exercise - Use it or lose it! As much as I love a good Kath & Kim Netflix binge, full time couch potato status can quickly lead to muscle loss. As exercise classes are currently on hold, completing a daily exercise routine that involves some cardio, full body strengthening, control and balance will help maintain your strength and conditioning. Here is one of my favourite mat Pilates exercises to get you started:

The Saw

If you need any help creating an individualized home exercise program, or if an injury is standing in your way, give us a shout and we will get you sorted. For more tips and tricks, follow @physicaledgehealth on Instagram!

Good luck, have fun.
